"Wr Secrets", 1st Day "Jitters"

I would like to applaud the parents and the student-athletes for attending “WR Secrets”, due to the weather. We had a total of sixteen student-athletes that participated today. That showed me that these players are determined to get better, “so Coach Brewster you better get ready”. What I enjoyed most of the day was guys were playing hard and competing. The comparison was similar to trying out for High School basketball team, guys where auditioning and giving their best.

You’re always going to have first day jitters as a player and a coach. My jitters were more of how many guys will attend due to the weather? Also, I was filled with so much anticipation and excitement to start “WR secrets”. When we first started I can tell some of the players had “jitters”. Why? Some of the jitters come because of the other athletes. As an athlete you work to be the best, but there is always someone better than you in a certain area. For instance, as a wide receiver I needed to improve my speed and route running. As a college sophomore at King and Mulick Park I spent hours working on my route running and ran several hills to improve on my explosiveness and speed.  Does it make any sense to work on your strong areas? It’s a must that you are your own “BIGGEST” critic, because if you’re not somebody else will and that my lead you to fall mentally. So, be true yourself and improve on your weak areas.

Day 1 is over now. Ask yourself these things. What are the things you need to improve on? Have you guys taken a look at Sam Harrison, Brandon Jackson, and Austin Gordon? Have you compared and contrast yourself against these guys? Have any of you asked these guys what does it take to get to the Next Level? Have you guys reached out to me, on what does it take to get to the Next Level? Student-Athletes it’s time to get out of your comfort zone, and soak up all the information you possibly can. We play to be GREAT!

Gameday of a "Wide Reciever"

Game day of a wide receiver will let me know if my guys are ready to play. Some of the rules I emphasize my receiver group is to be sharp, be on time for pre-game receiver & team meetings, and when you are in those meetings  be mentally locked in. If you have questions asked them now, and not later in the game. This is the time for my guys to ask questions if you aren’t positively right. I rather you asked these things now, instead of making a mental error in the game that will cost our football team.

Before the game I have conversations with my receivers asking them, how was school today? What classes you have today? What you have for lunch today? During this conversation I am waiting to hear my players say, “Coach I wasn’t focused in school today”. Why not? “Coach, I was thinking about the game today”! I say, ok so tell me what you were thinking about? Coach, “I was thinking about making big plays today”. I replied, “no worries just stay disciplined and do what you been taught”.  Hey, “next game when you in class just try to stay focus, so you want get behind in school”.  “Ok”, Coach.

I love the answer my player gave me about thinking about the game and making big plays. When I asked him tell me what you were thinking about. I want my players to say, “Coach when they play man to man (Cover 1) #22 the field cornerback plays it like cover 3 and he drops back deep, so when I run our quick passing game, such as hitches, slants, stop routes, and quick outs, I can turn those short routes into big gains. So, coach if everything goes right I can have a big game today. That’s THE ANSWER I AM LOOKING FOR! Why, because I know this kid is watching film, he is studying the opponent, he understands their coverage’s, and he understand there weakness in personnel. Most importantly, he is listening to everything I tell him. Because studying opponent’s team, watching film, coverage’s, and understanding there personnel are something we do as a team.

WR Secrets, is taking off and digging deeper into the minds of football players and will develop them into student’s of the game.  Being a student of the game, it will make your job, so much easier on Friday nights.  Why do you guys think Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are great?  For example, if Mann inning is playing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week 15 he will watch the previous 14 games they played against opponents and watch each play until he understands what they are doing on defense. Last question, how bad do you want it?

"WR Secrets", On why YOU should become a member!

The wave of football has changed tremendously. The spread offense has taken over on all levels of football. Starting from little league, middle school, high school, college, and now the NFL. Football has changed from being a run style offense to a passing "happy" league. The quarterbacks are the most important tool on football teams. Guess what's next? The wide receiver position has changed over the years. For instance, in the 1980's you might have one wide receiver on each team in the NFL that has over 1,000 yards per season. Today, you have three pass catchers on your team with over 1,000 yard seasons. The wide receiver position is now the vocal point on offense.

"WR Secrets", is a way for athletes of all ages to be able to learn the correct techniques and fundamentals to be a complete wide receiver. For example, the fundamentals we will work are stance/ starts, catching the football the correct way, alignment/assignment, read coverages, knowing and respecting your opponent, and many other dynamics of the game. Why "WR Secrets"? I have been a High School football coach  for six years now, and I seen a lot of talented WR's, but they lack they skill set that I mentioned above. In the Midwest, you have football states such as, Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. The reason they have high percentage football players playing at a collegiate level is because they market football year round.  That's why I developed "WR Secrets", because it will give kids the opportunity to improve there fundamentals, techniques, and there mental aspects of the game.

I spent two in half years in the NFL. My career wasn't long what I wanted it. When I spent time in the NFL I learned so many things from Future Hall of Fame Coaches such as, Mike Shanahan, Sean Peyton, Mike MCarthy, and many more. I learned from NFL Greats and Hall of Famers as well, Charles Woodson, Donald Driver, Javon Walker, Champ Bailey, and the list goes on. Those years I spent in the NFL prepared me mentally, and spiritually on what my purpose is. That's mentoring the youth through football.
